The infamous NES movie tie-in Jaws will bite PS5 later this week, from 13th February.
The game – which has a mixed reputation – actually introduces some interesting ideas, as it sees you sailing the ocean, trying to avoid the eponymous sea-based serial killer, before levelling up your abilities in order to bring him down.
What’s interesting about this re-release is that it’ll feature the original, 8-bit experience with quality-of-life improvements (like rewind and save states), as well as a new ROM hack which massively expands on the original game.

This, according to a press release, will include a “multi-chapter adventure with nods and homages to all four Jaws films” with “new quests and objectives”. You’ll also unlock new abilities and weapons.
Obviously, it remains to be seen how well executed this new content will be, but it promises to “realise” the original’s role-playing roots. Like we said earlier, we do think the original Jaws had a good idea behind it, but it was just poorly executed and undercooked.
So, this could be a really fun little addition to your digital retro collection on PS5. Will you be sinking your teeth into it later this week?
